The Hundred Hundreds
‘The hundreds’ is what I call a writing format which I first used in a 2008 essay for Einar Hansen’s photography book The Fog Will Clear The Snow Will Melt. As its name suggests, the format limits a text to one hundred words but isn’t otherwise supposed to impose any stylistic influence: the writing can be staccato, it can flow or be simply a list of words; the writing can have an internal tone or it can look, listen and smell the things outside. I’ve used it for talks, book chapters, essays for exhibitions. I just count until one hundred.
