Viso Come Territorio
Viso Come Territorio was a residency project orgainsed by the Fondazione Aurelio Petroni (FAP) in San Cipriano Picentino, Southern Italy, in 2012. The culmination of the residency was a group show of the same name that was held in a palazzo in the village. I travelled to Southern Italy as the spring deepened, seeing the trees change, the snows melt and birds fly in. With the support of FAP I was able to range across the Picentini mountains, encountering shepherds, wood mill workers, chestnut farmers, mountainbikers, forest rangers, naturalists, cobblers and singers of ribald songs.
A soundmap, later written about in Salome Voegelin's Sonic Possible Worlds, documented these travels and encounters. You can explore this by going to the Favourite Sounds site and choosing :"San Cipriano Picentino - Face As Territory" from the Projects menu.
The soundmap was installed in the exhibition for which I also produced two room installations, "Acqua Bianca" and "Silent Mountain," two works for the corridors"Field Signals" and "Nannanella" and some adapted "Bird Boxes" for the garden. The exhibition was a group show wiht a variety of photographic practices on display. You can see more here. In the catalogue, I have an essay, some 'sound diaries' and there is a conversation between myself and Maria Pia Masella.
